Capsule Geology

The Blue (T.S.) occurrence is located about 5 kilometres south of Chromite Creek and 120 kilometres north of the community of Dease Lake.

The showing consists of thin bedded, siliceous, baritic, pyritic exhalite and is exposed at four locations over a seven kilometre strike length, that extends into NTS map 104O/9E, with a strike of 150 degrees dipping 50 degrees east. The exhalites contain barite, fine, wispy galena and local pale brown sphalerite and are hosted in black, graphitic, phyllitic argillite, grey chert and turbidites of the Upper Devonian-Lower Mississippian Earn Group.

In the T.S. area, disseminated galena mineralization has been detected at two separate locations within a 200 metre strike length. In each case, up to four distinct exhalite horizons ranging from 0.5 to 5 metres in thickness are present. In 1982, selected grab samples of mineralized exhalite assayed 0.80 per cent lead, 0.75 per cent zinc, 18.6 grams per tonne silver and 7.7 per cent barium (sample 77234), and 23.7 per cent lead, 0.24 per cent zinc, 622 grams per tonne silver and 6.6 per cent barium (sample 77235) (Assessment Report 10751).

In 1981, preliminary mapping and geochemical sampling was completed on behalf of Regional Resources Ltd. A 1982 program comprised extensive geological mapping, grid preparation and geochemical sampling (11 rock, 928 soil, 4 stream sediment). The property was re-staked by Cominco Ltd. in 1996 after a literature review of the previous work. A 1997 work program concentrated on further examination of the exhalite horizon and known showings. An effort was made to find other parts of the exhalite that might contain better grades in situ than those reported in previous sampling. Work conducted consisted of confirmation of geological mapping conducted from 1981 to 1984. The 1997 program failed to find evidence of mineralization to the levels reported in previous work. The trenches had been reclaimed thus no confirmation sampling could be done.
